TASK DEFINITION

The first step in the information problem-solving process is to recognize that an information need exists, to define the problem, and to identify the types and amounts of information needed.

INFO SEEKING STRAT.

The second step is brainstorming all possible sources for data gathering, including databases, physical resources, Internet and other electronic resources. Then  evaluate these resources and select the best ones.  How will they help you with your information problem?  Are they quality resources?

LOCATION & ACCESS

Step three, locate appropriate resources available through the school library, databases, and the Internet. Remember that you can ask for help accessing this information from your teacher or Ms. Brenneman.

USE OF INFORMATION

The fourth step is extracting, analyzing and transfering relevant information from a source to a document, spreadsheet, database, graphic organizer or multimedia program, including citation references.

SYNTHESIS

Step five, organizing information from multiple sources.  Use documents, graphic organizers, databases, spreadsheets and publishing software to create text documents or use presentation software to create multimedia productions.

EVALUATION

The sixth and final step is where you will judge the efficiency and effectiveness of your process by evaluating and editing presentations, considering copyright, checking how well Internet etiquette and the acceptable use policy was followed.  Teachers may ask you to reflect upon your project.
